In 2005 Racolin engineers designed and supplied an innovative re-usable GRP access kit to provide a safe working area within the Thames Barrier gates.

· Due to the limited access to the gates, the maximum size of any component was 1.5m x 0.5m and not more than 25Kgs in weight.

· A quick fitting/removal decking was required to fix to the different height ribs in order to provide a safe working area for all personnel.

· GRP access towers were supplied to allow access to the roof of the gates. These comprised of a minimal number of simple components that could slot together in a short period of time to reach heights of 1, 2 and 3m.

· It was essential that all parts were easy to fit due to the limited space and light within the gates.

· GRP handrail posts and nylon safety chain were supplied for additional security to the edge of the decking and to carry the water  hoses and electrical cables.
